Variety of youth camps coming to opera house

CORNING – Corning Opera House Cultural Center is offering a variety of youth camps from July 24-27 led by Valerie Lenderink of Joyful Music Therapy of Rock Rapids. The camps, Wednesday through Friday, require registration and payment and Saturday workshops are drop in with a freewill donation.

The three classes that meet Wednesday through Friday, July 24-26, and require registration are Toddler Tunes, Build an Instrument and Build and Learn to Play Ukulele. Classes are in the Field Conference Room on the first floor of the opera house. To register, call the opera house at 641-418-8037 or download the form at www.corningoperahouse.com and follow the directions for emailing or mailing it. Space is limited.

Toddler Tunes is a mommy and me or adult and child group for newborn to 5 years of age. Participants will sing, move to music and play instruments from 9 to 9:45 a.m. All three days cost $10 or $4 per day.

Build an Instrument is for ages 5 to 12. Participants will paint a wooden percussion instrument, learn how to play and take it home. The class is from 10 to 11 a.m. Cost for three days is $45 and $20 for one day.

Build and Learn to Play Ukulele is for ages 12 to adult. Each person will make their own ukulele and learn simple chords. Participants must attend all three days from 11 a.m. to noon for a cost of $40.

Saturday workshops, July 27, are in conjunction with Corning’s Lazy Days celebration and will meet in the lobby of the opera house. All three are free will donation.

Toddler Tunes is for an adult and child between the ages of 0 and 5. From 9 to 9:30 a.m. people will enjoy instrument playing, singing and moving to music.

Make and Take Instruments is for ages 5 to 12. Each participant may choose to create one instrument – either a maracas, ocean drum or rain stick. People may drop in between 9:30 and 11 a.m.

Drum Circle is for ages 12 to adult from 11 a.m. to noon. A great stress reliever and learning how to play as we beat on a variety of percussion instruments. Some instruments available will be a cajon, djembe, dunbek, buffalo drum, frame drums and shape drums or you many BYOD (bring your own drum).
