Frank Dennis Orwan was born on July 19, 1946, in Des Moines, son to Frank Edwin Orwan and Gale Lurene (Wearmouth) Orwan. He graduated from East Union High School with the class of 1964 and attended Southwestern Community College (SWCC) in Creston.
On July 3, 1965, Dennis was united in marriage to Karen Diane Outhouse in Creston. He was a lifelong resident of Lorimor and worked for Wellman Dynamics for more than 53 years in various positions, including his latest as warehouse manager at the Lorimor facility, retiring officially in December of 2018.
At the age of 54, Dennis returned to school at SWCC, completing the carpentry and building trades program in June of 2002 and receiving an Associates of Applied Science degree in carpentry and building trades in May of 2003. Dennis excelled at SWCC, being honored as a member of the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society. He also selflessly served on the Lorimor City Council for many years and was the president of the Lorimor Development Corp.
Dennis was an avid golfer, who truly enjoyed a competitive afternoon on the course, but he also loved having fun with his family which included playing many rounds of miniature golf with his granddaughters. He possessed a boundless love for great food and wine, and never missed an opportunity to test a new recipe or seek out varied and unique restaurants. Especially if the new establishment was a diner, drive-in or dive. From the beginning, Dennis was a loyal and passionate fan of the Iowa Barnstormers, who never missed a game and could easily be heard over the crowd ringing his vaunted Barnstormer cowbell.
Dennis is survived by his wife Diane; son Troy (wife Monica) Orwan of Fairfax Station, Virginia; daughter Tiffiny (husband Russ) Smith of Lewisville, Texas; two grandchildren, Colette Orwan of Fairfax Station, Virginia, and Charis Smith of Lewisville, Texas; and one sister Deborah (husband Dean) Petersen of Earlham.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Lurene Orwan, and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Richard and Ruth Outhouse.
