Kiwanis

The weekly Kiwanis meeting was held 12:05 p.m. Tuesday, June 11, at Pizza Ranch meeting room with 20 members and five guests. President Terry Freeman presided, Ed Ritter gave the prayer and Korina Loudon was the finemaster.

Kiwanis is providing the Open Table meal Tuesday, June 25, at United Church of Christ. Members were asked to help from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. that day.

The club is helping once again put up and take down flags for the Fourth of July. The club also helps organize the parade set up and judging. Ellen Gerharz passed around the sign up sheet for those activities at the meeting. Creston Kiwanis will also have a banner in the parade.

Club members now have the tickets for the Big BBQ Bash from 4 to 7 p.m. July 6. Cost is $6 for burger, brat, hot dog or tenderloin with chips and water to be held at the Caboose in Uptown Creston, the same time as KSIB Cruise Night. It is a joint fundraiser for Kiwanis, Lions and Rotary during the town’s 150th year celebration. If a business would like to buy a book of 10 tickets for $60, they will be listed as a sponsor of the event. Contact any Kiwanis member to buy your tickets or book of tickets for this great fundraiser.

The program was given by Maggie Arnold with Creston High School’s CAST program. She brought members of the class to explain some of the activities that the communication and service technology class does during the school year, summer internship and partnerships program. The elective course helps students prepare for real world business with business plan and grant writing knowledge. The group is also working with Creston Booster Club in creating a physical retail location for the purchase of school apparel and items created by students.
