Rockin‘ news, join the fun in dance

Dance to Rock and Roll music Saturday, May 25, at Raccoon Ridge Music Hall, located 5 miles north of Stuart, turn right and follow the signs. The dance is from 8 p.m. till your feet give out and features the “Who Nu?” band.

Randy Crawford is the drummer, Doug Harris is lead guitar, Chris Shafer a vocalist and Gary Thompson on the bass. The musicians started in the 60s and will bring the greatest hits from that era along with some good older country western music and a dab of blues. Come hear Elvis, Beatles, Mellencamp, and yes, even “The Stroll.” This band will be playing from 6 to 9 p.m. June 1 at Harveys’ Chicken Inn, 3 miles west of Creston. This band is also featured 7 p.m. June 22 at the Adair Fireman’s Dance. These guys practice so the show moves smoothly and seamlessly.

In case anyone doesn’t know how to do the stroll, Bonnie and Charlie Westman will be giving lessons during break at about 7:30 p.m at the May Wednesday night 6 to 9 p.m. jam sessions. Lessons are free and fun. In June, there will be other lessons as requested by whoever wants to learn. Everyone is invited to all of the dances, and if anyone would like to sing or play with the band, everyone is welcome to join us for the jam sessions at Harveys.’ The jam session stage does limit the number of players to 14.

All of this is to help the group get ready for a special jam session/dance that will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. July 3 at Harveys’ Chicken Inn, when they plan to have a historical dance night which includes square dancing, a circle dance, country western, big band and, of course, Rock and Roll.

Harveys’ is in the Iowa Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and features the best oak dance floor in Iowa, central air conditioning and brand new restrooms. Bring class reunions, friends and neighbors for great fun.
