Wolverine boys take second in home meet

The Wolverine boys track and field team held serve Monday and put together a second place finish on their home track.

Only Mount Ayr was able to score more team points with 111 while NV put together 75 as a collective effort.

Clay Hohertz was second in the 800 meter run, picking up eight points in a time of 2:11.21. Tyler Breheny also snagged a team point in the same event after taking sixth.

Josh Baudler and Ben Breheny took first and second in the 1,600 and 3,200 meter runs, besting the rest of the field by several seconds in the process.

The boys 4x400 meter relay team continued to make noise as Tony Ayase, Mason Menefee, Austin Wilson and Toby Bower took third as a grouping in 4:03.08.

In the 4x800, Tyler Breheny, Hohertz, Mason Menefee and Bower were second behind Mount Ayr in 9:03.91.

It was the distance medley relay that took home the top spot Monday as Brady Hilpipre, Colby Harris, Ayase and Bower finished the race in 4:02.90, just six-tenths of a second in front of Mount Ayr’s foursome.

In the long jump, Brady Hilpipre and Caelen DeVault were fifth and 10th, respectively.

NV’s Colby Harris managed to secure fifth in the 400 meter hurdles in 1:04.15 for two team points.

The Wolverines head to Griswold Thursday for their state qualifying meet with hopes to get as many runners as possible up to the Blue Oval.
