ORIENT – A community baccalaureate service honoring the Orient-Macksburg class of 2019 will be 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, at Orient United Methodist Church with Mike Standley as the speaker.
Standley grew up in Boone as a city kid who wanted to farm. While in high school and college, he worked for a local farmer who also owned a farm near Lenox. Upon graduation from Iowa State University with a degree in animal science, he moved to the Lenox farm, and in time, purchased it. Standley and his wife, Connie, continue to live on that farm where they have raised six children – four married, one in college and one in high school. They have 12 grandchildren.
Standley has served two terms on the Lenox School Board and has been a junior high youth leader for 18 years and an adult Sunday school teacher for 38 years at First Baptist Church in Creston. He has entitled his message, “Life Lessons.”
The public is invited to attend and support the graduates by listening to Standley’s message. A time of fellowship will follow the program. Come prepared to be uplifted while Standley shares from his heart.
