Crossroads begins offering creative group sessions for adults

Crossroads Behavioral Health Services announces it will now be offering two new group sessions starting May 6 focusing on helping adults express themselves through art and mindfulness. These sessions are available to all members of the public and do not require any previous knowledge or training. A willingness to learn and an open mind are all participants need.

“We are looking forward to being able to provide these sessions to our community,” said Erin Miller, executive director of Crossroads. “These will provide a great resource to anyone looking to use art and mindfulness practices to express their emotions or overcome challenges they may be dealing with.”

The Art Therapy Group will focus on helping participants process different emotions and challenges through artful self-expression. Various techniques and disciplines such as water color painting, charcoal drawing and pastel work will be explored throughout the 13-week group from 5 to 6 p.m. Mondays beginning May 6 at Crossroads in Creston.

“It is amazing to see the art people are able to create when they are given permission to do so,” said Miller. “Watching people harness their thoughts and feelings in a creative way is inspiring and can be effective in helping them work through various blockages in their lives.”

The Mindfulness Therapy Group will focus on using meditation as a therapeutic tool to relax, unwind and channel emotions. The group will be comprised of a series of eight weekly sessions from 6 to 7 p.m. Mondays at Crossroads in Creston. Each session will be facilitated by a licensed master of social work and the cost may be covered by your insurance policy.
