Christa Oshel

Christa Kathe Oshel, 75, of Diagonal died Monday, April 29, 2019, at Clearview Home in Mount Ayr.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, May 2, at Armstrong Funeral Home, 205 W. Monroe St., in Mount Ayr with the Rev. Mike Maddy officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery, southwest of Diagonal. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, at the funeral home. Memorials are in her name to be determined. Christa, daughter of Martin and Ludwig Ortwein, was born Aug. 3, 1943, at Heidelberg, Germany. Christa lived in Germany and worked at a paper production factory.

She married Larry Oshel, who was stationed in Germany. While Larry served in the U.S. Army, they would go to a United States base only to return to an Army Base in Germany. After Larry retired in 1980, they moved to Diagonal, where she has since lived. Christa worked at Taylor Fiberglass in Diagonal for more than 20 years and worked for several years in the laundry department at Clearview Homes in Mount Ayr.

Christa is survived by her husband Larry Oshel of Diagonal; son Tony (Kris Davis) Oshel of Diagonal; daughter Susie Oshel (friend Tiffany) of Diagonal; grandchildren, Raphael Coulthard, Tara Oshel, Amanda and Leigh Davis, Madeline and Claire Oshel, and Silva and Callum Oshel; sister Ursula Bertsch of Mannheim, Germany; several in-laws, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Christa was preceded in death by her parents and brother Gunter Ortwein.
