Area golf round up: Mount Ayr stays consistent

East Union, Mount Ayr face off

AFTON – The Eagles and Raiderettes faced off against one another at Lakeshore Country Club with Mount Ayr narrowly being the best at the meet, shooting a team score of 213 to EU’s 218.

The EU girls were led by Quinn Eslinger (48) and Anna Collins (49). Both medaled and placed as the runner up, respectively.

Lauren Hadley shot a 52 and Abby Harper shot a 69.

The Raiderettes were led by Kaitlyn Dolecheck’s low of 49, the runner up score. Elsie Schafter shot a 53 and Abbi Haley shot a 56 in the girls sixth match win of the season, improving to 6-0.

MA boys dominate

MOUNT AYR – The MA boys were on a roll Tuesday, winning their meet with the low score of 162 strokes.

The Raiders finished 25 strokes ahead of second place Wayne (187). East Union placed third, shooting a 220.

The Eagles had lows from Matt McGuire (43) and Gus McNeil (55). Wyatt Carlson and Danny Thomlinson both shot a 61.

Myles Greene earned the medal for the meet, shooting a 42 despite Central Decatur’s Kole Minnick also shooting a 42. Greene came away with the win by handicap holes, where Greene had the lower total.

MA season kicks off, hosts NV

MOUNT AYR – Mount Ayr kicked off its golf season on April 8, hosting Martensdale-St. Marys and Nodaway Valley.

The Raiders shot a team score of 191, the best of the three teams. Nodaway Valley shot a 305.

Mount Ayr’s Dalton Elwood medaled, shooting a 40. Cayden Lambert was close behind him with a 47, finishing as runner up.

Zach Doster scored a 49 and both Isaac Grose and Brady Bickel ended the day with a 55.

The NV boys lowest scorer was Aryll Shantz, shooting a 72.

The Mount Ayr girls shot a match best 217, besting Nodaway Valley’s 270. Martensdale-St. Marys did not tally a team score.

Kaitlyn Dolecheck and Kylee Smith were the top two finishers for in the match, scoring a 50 and a 53, respectively.

Also shooting well for Mount Ayr was Abbi Haley (56), Elsie Schafer (58) and Hanna Ackley (59).

Megan Russell scored the low for the NV girls, shooting a 61. Corinne Bond and Paisley Kintigh were the next lowest, ending the day with a 68 and a 69, respectively.
