David Jessen, 71, of Creston died Sunday, April 14, 2019, at his home in Creston.

Celebration of life memorial services will be 11 a.m. Friday, April 19, at Powers Funeral Home, 601 New York Ave., in Creston. The Rev. Rick Titus will officiate the service. Burial will be at a later date in Graceland Cemetery in Creston. Open visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Thursday with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. William David Jessen, son of William Theodore Jessen and Marjorie Elaine (Schlapia) Jessen, was born Jan. 27, 1948, in Creston.

On June 11, 1967, David married Judy Kay Weckman in Creston. They had four children, Toby, Brenda, Chris and Tresha. Judy died Nov. 13, 1990.

On Nov. 25, 1997, David married Helen Louis McGinnis in Oklahoma City. David was a lifelong resident of Creston and while residing there he held various jobs. He worked for Superior Machines in Albia, GT Plastics, Wellman Dynamics and Iowa Tool. He also drove a semi-truck for Jimmy Dean out of Osceola. Most recently David worked for the railroad, transporting the crew.

David was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Creston.

David is survived by his wife Helen of Creston; children, Toby (Patty) Jessen of Des Moines, Brenda Ewing of Creston, Chris (Kari) Jessen of Creston, Tresha (Richard) Millslagle of Kanawna, Kari (Chris) Jessen of Creston and Kristi (Joe) Frederick of Murray; 17 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Shirley Fleharty of Creston and a host of friends.

David was preceded in death by his parents, wife Judy and daughter Kimberly (Nathan) Gross.
