Beautifying Bridgewater

Earth Day Park Cleanup is Monday night

The local group Take Back Bridgewater, Iowa is once again taking the lead at beautifying the community of Bridgewater by hosting an event Monday, April 22, where residents can come together and clean up the City Park.

According to a press release from the group, residents are invited to join their neighbors and friends in an Earth Day Park Clean Up Event in the Bridgewater City Park beginning at 6 p.m. Volunteers will help pick up sticks, limbs, trash and litter. Those participating are asked to wear comfortable work clothes, a pair of gloves, and to bring a rake and trash bag.

World Earth Day is April 22, and the press release states participants can, “be a part of a worldwide effort to take notice of the beauty nature provides while helping spring up, clean up and taking pride in Bridgewater.”

“This is part of Take Back Bridgewater, and it’s kind of a kick off to helping clean up and take some pride in Bridgewater, getting a kick start on spring,” said Doug Miller, spokesman for Take Back Bridgewater, Iowa. “We’ll pick up limbs, litter, clean up the park, then there’s a flower bed we’ll work on there too. Take Back Bridgewater will be there, there will be some community members and some Cub Scouts too.”

Miller commented that Bridgewater has a nice City Park and he hopes it can continue to stay beautiful. One way to do that will be for everyone to lend a hand at this upcoming event. He reported the Bridgewater City Council is also contemplating an upgrade to playground equipment in the future, which he said would be a nice thing for the park.

“We’ve got some trees we’ve got to do some things with. It is a nice park and the City Council is in a process of looking at a grant to update playground equipment. It’s been a number of years since we’ve done anything with playground equipment. There have been some donations left over the years so there’s some money already,” Miller said. “We know nice playground equipment is a draw to bring people into the community so they come and have lunch at the cafe and then play in the park. That’s some things we can do to raise spirits and benefit the community.”

Miller said that as Take Back Bridgewater’s leadership team has begun meeting again this spring, several other events are in the works for the near future around the community. Among them is a City-Wide Clean Up Saturday, April 27.
