It was a clean sweep for the Creston/O-M girls tennis team Monday as they rolled to a 9-0 team win over Southwest Valley, earning the Panthers first team win of the early season.

Megan Haley and Maddie Frey held down No. 1 and No. 2 singles with convincing wins before moving over and teaming up on the doubles court for an 8-5 win over Southwest Valley’s Jentry Schafer and Rylee Jacobs.

“I was really impressed with Megan Haley and Maddie Frey at No. 1 doubles,” said head coach Kevin Cooper. “They both love singles and they just complimented each other well today.”

Heylee Shields, Karly Calvin and Morgan Driskell picked up their first singles wins of the early season while Sam Dunphy won her second consecutive singles match at No. 6 by an 8-2 margin.

“I thought we served really well. I just remember telling coach (Amanda) Plymale that I thought every girls one through six served really well,” said Cooper.

CORNING – After a 3-3 split of the six singles matches, it came down to doubles to decide the Creston/O-M and Southwest Valley boys tennis match Monday.

After both Mark Waigand and James McDonald snagged singles wins for Creston/O-M, the duo led late in their doubles match but eventually fell to Evan Davis and Adam Timmerman by a 9-7 score.

AdamHarris and Kade Hutchings of Southwest Valley toppled Walker Patterson and Eli Hartman by an 8-2 set score to pick up the team win for the Timberwolves.

Creston/O-M’s No. 3 doubles pairing of Jeremy Rutz and Dustin Merritt did grab an 8-6 win over Dominic Nicholas and Dayton Cobb, but it wasn’t enough for the Panthers to pull through.

UP NEXT – The Panthers will take on Atlantic Thursday with the Creston/O-M girls staying in Creston and the boys heading off to Atlantic.

Southwest Valley turns around and tumbles with Clarinda today (Tuesday) in Corning.
