Prom at area schools is Saturday

Saturday, April 13 is bound to be a memorable night for Orient-Macksburg and Nodaway Valley students as both schools have worked extremely hard in preparation for their proms that are this Saturday.

O-M is putting on a “50’s Sock Hop” for their students this Saturday with the Parade of Cars starting at 6 p.m., the dinner of hot dogs, hamburgers and french fries at 7:15 p.m., and the dance to follow. There will be a photo booth for students, a glow in the dark dodgeball tournament, a bags tournament, a hypnotist and lots of other games and activities. To end the night, there will be a “drive in movie” in the cafeteria.

“The kids and I have had a lot fun planning this and trying to come up with items from the 50s to make it look authentic, but still give it the feel of a prom of today’s times,” Jennifer Ray, O-M’s prom sponsor, said about the upcoming event.

Nodaway Valley juniors are hosting a “Casino Royale” for students and dates to enjoy. The Grand March is from 5 to 6:30 p.m. followed by dinner of ham balls, cheesy potatoes, green beans, a “special desert” and pictures until the dance starts at 8 p.m.

From midnight until 5 a.m., students and dates will have the opportunity of riding a mechanical bull, playing casino games and playing laser tag. At the end of the night, prizes ranging in size will be handed out to the attendees.

“We’ve been working since the beginning of the school year to plan everything and now we are focusing on some of the smaller things as we get closer to prom,” Paisley Kintigh, the junior class president at NV, said about their prom.
