Elaine Riedesel, 78, of Afton died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2019, at Afton Care Center.

Celebration of life services will be 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 18, at Powers Funeral Home, 612 N. Dodge St., in Afton. The Rev. Ben Turner will officiate. Burial will be in Lorimor Cemetery. Open visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday with family present from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to her family. Elaine May (Smith) Riedesel, daughter of Dale Edwin Smith and Vera Evelyn (Verwers) Smith, was born May 24, 1940, in Winterset. She went to country school at Williamson School House, west of Lorimor, and after consolidation, Elaine attended school in Lorimor and graduated from high school there in 1958.

Elaine married Raymond Tostenson. They resided near LaCross, Wisconsin, until they later returned to the Lorimor area. Raymond died in 1962.

On April 29, 1966, Elaine married George Sylvester Riedesel on the Dale E. Smith farm, west of Lorimor. George and Elaine farmed north of Afton since 1972, where they currently reside. Elaine was a homemaker.

Elaine attended Lorimor First Church of God and was active with the Women’s Missionary Society. She also was the church treasurer, song leader at church and children’s Sunday school teacher for many years.

Elaine is survived by her husband George of Afton; sons, Rod Tostenson of Creston and Dean (Gina) Tostenson of Sheffield; granddaughter Abby Tostenson of Leesburg, Virginia; sisters, Diann (Ben) Turner of Lorimor and Sue Ann (Terry) Neal of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida; and sister-in-law Dorothy Camenzind of Omaha, Nebraska.

Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, husband Raymond and daughter-in-law Marilyn Tostenson.
