7th girls

Nodaway Valley defeated Creston seventh-grade girls in the Panthers’ season opener Jan. 10, 43-13.

Sophie Hagle led Creston with seven points. Lydia Goins, Halli Abildtrup and Alexis Utley each scored two points.

“It was our first game out with only five practices and Nodaway Valley was at the end of their season with only one game left,” Creston coach Mendy McCreight said. “We have a lot of work on but I was proud of the girls for trying their best and not giving up.”

On Jan. 14 Clarinda beat Creston 30-14 in seventh grade and again in the B quarter, 10-6.

Josie Mahan scored seven points for Creston in the first game. Halli Abildtrup added four points and Sophie Hagle added three.

“Our defense is coming along as we created a few steals off our defensive work,” McCreight said. “We are improving.”

In the B quarter Lydia Goins, Brayley Dais and Halli Abildtrup each scored two points.

8th girls

Creston eighth-grade girls opened the season with a 35-18 victory over Nodaway Valley. Doryn Paup led Creston with 18 points.

In a B quarter, Creston won 15-4 led by Marcey Bailey’s six points.

“The girls were hustling and playing with a lot of effort and moving the ball on offense,” McNutt said.
