Supervisors set public hearing for budget amendment

The Union County Board of Supervisors elected a new chair and vice chair of its board set a public hearing date for a county budgewt amendment and decided how to proceed with the wind energy ordinance at its meeting Wednesday morning.

Rick Friday, supervisor, Kelly Busch, county treasurer, Katie Carlton, county recorder, Tim Kenyon, county attorney, and Ron Riley, supervisor were sworn in Wednesday morning.

The supervisors elected and approved Dennis Brown, supervisor, as the chair of the Union County Board of Supervisors and Rick Friday as the vice chair.

The Creston News Advertiser and Afton Star Enterprise were approved as the county’s official newspapers.

The supervisors approved the 28E agreement with Guthrie county for sanitation services. This agreement allows Union County and Guthrie County to help each other with sanitation should either county require it.

The supervisors set a public hearing date, 10 a.m. Jan. 21, for a county budget amendment.

The county budget amendment is to account for increases in medical examiners costs, juvenile treatment expenses, unemployment, debt service capital projects and a secondary roads employee.

The county’s total revenue is $9,657,400 and expenditures are $9,821,337- a $163,907 difference.

“That’s one of the reasons we have reserves,” said Brown.

The supervisors discussed a potential wind ordinance. Kenyon will draft an ordinance for the board to consider. Once an ordinance is ready for the public to consider, a public hearing will be set.

In other county news, the supervisors approved the following: auditor’s quarterly reports, construction evaluation resolution (Master Matrix), deferred compensation board resolution, depository resolution, generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) report, holiday schedule, official newspapers of Union County, record retention resolution, supervisors organization resolution, and treasurer certification of appointments.

The Union County Board of Supervisors meetings are open to the public and begin with a public open forum at 9 a.m. Mondays at the Union County Courthouse located at 300 N. Pine St.
