Theresa Tapken, 99, of Greenfield died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2018, at Greenfield Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Greenfield.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, at Greenfield United Methodist Church in Greenfield with burial in Greenfield Cemetery. A luncheon was held at the church following the services at the cemetery. The Rev. Sandy Smith officiated the service. Open visitation was from 2 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, at Steen Funeral Home, 101 SE Fourth St., in Greenfield with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Memorials may be made to Hebron United Methodist Church or hospice. Theresa Helen Tapken, daughter of Christopher and Amanda (Bauman) Wildhagen, was born Aug. 2, 1919, in Gretna, Nebraska. Theresa grew up in Nebraska and graduated from Gretna High School.
On March 5, 1940, she married George Tapken in Gretna, Nebraska. George and Theresa farmed in Nebraska for a few years, and then moved to the Hebron area where they continued to farm. In 2014, Theresa moved into Greenfield.
She was a 4-H leader for Grand River Bluebirds and member of Hebron United Methodist Church and Tuesday sewing club.
Theresa is survived by her children, Art (Cleota) Tapken of Orient, John (Kathy) Tapken of Creston, Helen Kordick of Bridgewater and Grace Evans of Bridgewater; 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Theresa was preceded in death by her parents; husband George in 1986; infant great-granddaughter Paige Tapken; sister Alice Petersen; brothers, Carl, Hans and Art Wildhagen; and son-in-law George Kordick.
