Creston VFW Post 1797 Commander Gary O’Daniels has announced the local winners for the nationally sponsored Voice of Democracy essay contest for students in grades 9-12 and the Patriots Pen essay contest for students in grades 6-8.
The first place winner in the Voice of Democracy contest is Evan Hagen of Osceola and second place is Megan Pellman of Creston.
In the Patriots Pen contest, first place winner is Hayden Ray, second place is Tristen Rice and third place is Kristi Travis, all from Creston.
The first place essays in both the Voice of Democracy and Patriots Pen have been forwarded for continuing judging at the district and state level.
The local winners have been invited to attend the January 2019 VFW meeting, where they will receive their certificates and checks.
