Dorothy Brown

Dorothy Brown, 96, of Creston died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2018, at Creston Specialty Care in Creston.

Private family graveside celebration of life memorial services will be at a later date at Graceland Cemetery in Creston. Online condolences may be left at www.powersfh.com.

Dorothy Elaine Brown, daughter of Essie Leona (Bullock) Ray and Joe Ray, was born June 1, 1922, in Thayer. In 1940, she graduated from Thayer High School.

Dorothy married Josiah Norman Brown in Winterset. They settled in Creston, where she began working as a machine operator at Gits Manufacturing. Josiah died in 1957, and Dorothy continued her work at Gits Manufacturing for many more years until her retirement.

Dorothy is survived by her son Tim (Vicki) Brown of Creston; daughter, Penny McNeer of Springfield, Oregon; grandchildren, Colette Staats of Kansas City, Missouri, Jessica Brown of Creston, Zachary Brown of Creston, Jerry Lawrence of Iowa, Christopher McNeer of Virginia and Randy McNeer, Melanie Stroup and Jamie Herrara, all of Oregon; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband Josiah Brown; brothers, Joe and Keith Ray and sisters, Grace Ray, Gladys (Russell) Spainhower, Vera (Allen) Stream and Ethylene Ray.
