Winston Kingery, 87, of Orient died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2018, at Greenfield Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Greenfield.

Funeral services were 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4, at Orient United Methodist Church with burial in Orient Cemetery. The Rev. Cathy Nutting officiated. A luncheon was held at the church following the committal services at the cemetery. Open visitation was from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at Steen Funeral Home, 101 SE Fourth St., in Greenfield with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday. Winston Kingery, son of Walter and Pauline (Shade) Kingery, was born Jan. 20, 1931. He attended grade school at Zion School, and his family moved to a farm northwest of Orient, where he attended junior high and high school, graduating in 1948. In 1949, he enlisted in the Navy, where he served for a year in San Diego, California. He remained in the Navy Reserve for five years. After the service, he returned home to Orient.

On June 14, 1953, Winston married Twila Kramer at Hill of Zion Church. They bought their current farm and moved to Orient in 1965. Winston began farming in 1951, and retired from farming in 2015 at the age of 84, a career of 68 years.

Winston served on Orient-Macksburg School Board for nine years (1966-75) and Adair County Mutual Insurance Board for 18 years (1986-2004). He was a member of Hill of Zion Church, Orient-Macksburg Booster Club and Orient Lion’s Club.

Winston is survived by his wife Twila; daughters, Debby (Jerry) Rost of Orient and granddaughter Brooklynn Eyerly of Columbus, Ohio; Christine (Gary) Ray of Cedar Rapids, grandson Ryan (Sara) Ray and great-grandchildren Cora and Elsie of St. Louis, Missouri; Pam (Dave) Kirkland of Greenfield, grandson Jason (Melissa), great-grandchildren Kambel and Kaydence of Orient, granddaughter-in-law Carol (Dana) Shea and great-grandchildren, Kinze Kirkland-Shea, Kiera and Luke Shea of Lime Springs; Julia (Jim) Frederick and grandsons Ryan Frederick of Orient and Paul Frederick of Ankeny; Jackie (Brent) Wyant of Trenton, Missouri, and grandchildren Megan Wyant, Logan (Kylie) Wyant of Kansas City, Missouri, and Coltan Wyant of Trenton, Missouri; Terri (Steve) Tussey of Orient and grandson Thad (Amy), great-grandchildren Trey and Landri of Winterset, granddaughter Tara (Ben) Waigand of Afton; sisters, Jean Smith and nephew David Smith of Santa Rosa, California, Donna Diers of Orient, Phyllis Ransom (Jerome) of Newton and Joyce Kingery of Florida; brother-in-law Arden Kramer of Orient and many nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends.

Winston was preceded in death by his father Walter Kingery; mother Pauline (Art) Wilkins; stepmother Bernice Kingery; brother Delbert (Judith) Kingery; sister Lois Kingery; grandson Patrick Kirkland; brothers-in-law, George Smith and Gail Diers; niece Susie Smith; mother-and father-in-law, Anna and Audre Kramer; sister-in-law Carol Kramer and nephew Monty Kramer.
