Horseshoe champions competed in the two player pro-am and the open singles divisions of the horseshoe pitching tournament held Aug. 17 at the 2018 Iowa State Fair.

In the market best of show in the FFA rabbit show judged Aug. 9 at the 2018 Iowa State Fair, Creston FFA placed seventh in the top ten chapters.

A total of 45 exhibitors from 30 chapters showed 262 animals in this year’s competition.

Men from across the state entered their prized whiskers in the beard growing contest held Aug. 14 at the 2017 Iowa State Fair.

Frank Gale of Creston, 72, placed third in best beard design with costume.

The contest was part of “Rural Americana Olde Tyme Competitions” in Farm Bureau Pioneer Hall. A first prize of $5 and ribbons were awarded to each class.

Fruit crops were judged Aug. 9 at the 2018 Iowa State Fair in the John Deere Agricultural Building sponsored by Alliant Energy.

Clover Hill Orchard of Mount Ayr placed first in Cortland (F), first in Gala (F), first in Honeycrisp, second in Jonagold (W), second in Jonathan (F), first in McIntosh (F), first in any other summer, first in any other fall, first in any other winter, first in any other, first in first time exhibitor and first, third, fourth and fifth in judges top five plates of apples.
