George Martin Kordick, 79, of Bridgewater died Thursday, July 5, 2018, at Good Samaritan Society in Fontanelle.

Mass of Christian burial was 11 a.m. Monday, July 9, at St. John's Catholic Church in Greenfield with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery in Bridgewater with full military graveside rites by William Thompson American Legion Post No. 703 of Bridgewater. A luncheon was held at the church immediately following services at the church prior to burial. The Rev. James Ahenkora officiated. Open visitation was from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at Steen Funeral Home, 525 Maple St., in Fontanelle. The family greeted friends one hour prior to services Monday at the church. ​Memorials may be directed to the George Kordick memorial fund to be determined later. George Martin Kordick, son of Edwin John and Jennie Naomi (Martin) Kordick, was born Nov. 5, 1938, on a farm northwest of Bridgewater. George lived on the same farm he was born on his whole life except for six months in the Army Reserves. He attended grade school at Jackson Township No. 5 and graduated from Bridgewater High School.

On Sept. 11, 1965, he married Helen Tapken at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Massena. They farmed their entire life.

George was a member of William Thompson American Legion Post No. 703 in Bridgewater, St. John’s Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus.

George is survived by his wife Helen Kordick of Bridgewater; children, Richard (Kirsten) Kordick of Tipton, Robert (Melissa) Kordick of Davenport and Donna (Brent ) Moore of Ames; grandchildren, Taylor, Kyley and Carson Kordick, Anton and Carl Kordick and Stephen, Katherine, Michael, Anne, Elizabeth and Madeleine Moore; and other relatives and friends.

George was preceded in death by his parents.
