The Creston girls soccer team had its banquet hosted at coach Kim Lauffer’s home Sunday evening.
Lauffer and assistant Megan Kincade presented awards, commendations, certificates and more as the squad enjoyed meals.
The Panthers celebrated several firsts, including a five-win season (most in Lauffer’s tenure) and first postseason victory in program history (7-0 over Clarke).
Creston snagged wins over Riverside, Greene County, Chariton, Atlantic and Clarke during a 5-12 season.
The Panthers celebrated the careers of seniors Kalan Bloodgood and Anna Tebbenkamp, both of whom played the majority of their time on the defensive side of the ball, both with different styles.
“There’s always going to be a gap. Especially with Kalan and Anna,” Lauffer said. “They’ve played for four years and it’s not easy to say goodbye for those players.”
Bloodgood used her speed to chase down balls on the back line and deter shots. Tebbenkamp, in Lauffer’s words: “She (mowed) you over and she will get that ball. Not only that, but she will step when she needs to step and she’ll lean to the ball ... and her footwork improved significantly.”
“It is going to make a big difference in our defense to have Kalan and Anna missing,” Lauffer added.
Tebbenkamp and Bloodgood presented gifts to the coaching staff and they themselves (seniors) received handmade gifted blankets purchased by the team.
The coaches announced that Karmen Chuong will carry over as a captain next year as she was the captain (out of three) who was chosen by the team vote. Laura Weis and Rachel Wignall, who were captains this season, will have the chance to hold that title again next season.
