About the CHS Entrepreneurship Showcase
The 15th annual College of Human Sciences Entrepreneurship Showcase was held Thursday, April 26, in Le Baron Hall at ISU. The event allows students in the Entrepreneurship in Human Sciences class, AESHM 474, to gain experience pitching their major projects to teams of external judges.
Consulting projects were conducted this spring in Jewell, in partnership with ISU Extension and Outreach. Five teams comprised of 18 students worked with five small retail businesses in Jewell on the consulting project.
Judging teams for the annual showcase are comprised of small business consultants, business owners, university educators and extension specialists who provide feedback and advice to students on their entries. A total of 24 judges participated this year to provide real-world insight to the class of 90 students regarding the 48 project entries. Students entered as individuals or in teams.
Winners in each category received certificates and cash awards for their excellent efforts. Laura Jolly, dean and dean’s chair in CHS, served as guest emcee for the event, assisted by class instructor Linda Niehm, a professor in apparel, events and hospitality management.
