Margaret Louise Wyllie Green, 95, of Greenfield died Thursday, April 26, 2018, at Greenfield Manor in Greenfield.
Margaret (Peggy) was born in Fontanelle to Helena and Hiram Wyllie on May 29, 1922. Helena passed away when Margaret was 5 years old, leaving behind five children who were then farmed out to other families. Margaret was moved from home to home, until she was finally taken in at age 7 by Jack (Helena’s brother) and Vera Meltabarger.
She lived with them in Fontanelle, then Orient, until she eloped at 15 with Forrest Green in 1938. They lived on the Green family farm in Zion, until they moved to Denver in 1955. When they retired in 1984, they moved to Arizona until 2002, then returned to Denver when Forrest’s health began to fail. They were married for 70 years when he passed away in 2008. Margaret lived in Denver after Forrest’s death until March 2017, when she moved back to Greenfield.
Margaret is preceded in death by her parents, Hiram and Helena Wyllie and Vera and Jack Meltabarger; her husband Forrest Green; her daughter Sharon Craighead and her granddaughter Margo Green. She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Yeatts (George) of Montrose, Colorado, and her sons, Charles Green (Ginger) of Greenfield and Kevin Green (Jackie) of Littleton, Colorado. She leaves behind 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
There will be a private family service in Denver, when she is interred with Forrest at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Centennial, Colorado.
