GLENWOOD — Creston and Southwest Valley’s boys track and field squads were in action Thursday with 13 other teams at the Glenwood Rams Relays.
“Solid competition in every event. Some of the best teams from western and northwestern Iowa. There were times, and distances, that went to the top of the charts for state rankings,” Creston coach Pat Schlapia said. “Teams are desperate to get some meets in, as some of the schools, were having their first meet competition of the season. It was great to take advantage of some decent weather at Glenwood for a track meet.”
The Panthers’ 4x200 meter relay team took the best finish of the night for Creston in eighth place in a season’s best time of 1:39.43, easily leaping their previous best. The team consisted of Dale Boyer, Keagan Trembly, Cael Kralik and Michael Scherer.
Boyer took 10th in the shot put with a personal record throw of 41 feet, 4.5 inches. Scherer was 10th in the high jump as he leaped 5-4.
SWV competes with big fellas
The Timberwolves came in as one of the smaller schools at the meet, but still put up several placing finishes.
Addison Bull set a new school record with his long jump leap of 20-2.5.
Jacob Webb took eighth in the shot put and Grant Maurer earned sixth in the 110 meter hurdles.
“Our highlights in the running events happened in the sprints, relays and hurdle events,” Southwest Valley coach Allen Naugle said. “Our sprint medley ran a very nice race to win their heat, but just missed placing in the top eight with a ninth place time. Our shuttle hurdle improved their time to place fourth overall, our highest finish.”
Making up the shuttle hurdle unit was Bull, Brett Schafroth, Chance Cobb and Maurer.
