Richard Lee Dickerson, 71, of Dike died Friday, Feb. 23, 2018, at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls.
A celebration of life tribute will be noon Sunday, April 22, at the new sports complex on the south end of Dike. Friends and family are invited to a BBQ to honor his life, and dress is casual. In case of inclement weather, the tribute will be held May 6. His body has been deeded to Mayo Clinic's anatomical bequest program. Richard, son of William Clifford and Goldie Darlene Jensen Dickerson, was born Aug. 20, 1946, in Red Oak. He graduated from Bridgewater-Fontanelle High School in 1964, and went on to receive his BA degree in physical education from University of Northern Iowa.
On June 6, 1970, he married Tamara J. “Tammy” Brown in Des Moines. He taught PE in the Cedar Falls Community School District, first at North Cedar Elementary, as well as other elementaries in the district. He then worked for Central Rivers AEA as a special education teacher, then work transition specialist until his retirement. Following retirement, he worked part time in media transportation with Central Rivers AEA.
Richard is survived by his wife Tammy of Dike; son Christopher J. of Cedar Falls; daughter Anjuli (John) Myers of Dike; grandchildren, Mackenna and Madison Myers; brothers, Jim Dickerson of Fontanelle, Duane (Linda) Dickerson of Greenfield, Randy (Sherri) Dickerson of Pierre, South Dakota, Mike (Keri) Sickles of Fontanelle and Ron (Kelli) Sickles of Fontanelle and sisters, Kathi (David) Christensen of Harlan and Diane Warnaca of Brayton.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather Charles Daniel Sickles and sister Donna Dickerson.
