Bernard “JR” Laverne Critz Jr., 60, of Osceola died Thursday, Nov. 16, 2017, at his home near Osceola.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 25, at Kale Funeral Home, 301 S. Main St., in Osceola with the Rev. Shane Simpson officiating. Visitation with family present was from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 20, at the funeral home. Cremation has been entrusted to the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be directed to his family. Bernard “JR” Laverne Critz Jr., son of Bernard L. Critz Sr. and Glendoris Critz, was born Feb. 2, 1957, in Des Moines. JR graduated from Clarke Community High School in 1975.

JR married Diedra Gunkel in December 1982, and they had three children. He later married Machelle McBroom in September 2005. He was a diesel mechanic all his adult life.

JR is survived by his spouse Machelle Critz of Osceola; father Bernard L. Critz Sr. of Manson; son Trey Critz of Brooklyn, New York; daughters, Sarah Critz of Ames and Katy Critz of Osceola; stepdaughter Ronee Husted; stepsons, Dustin Ashley and Ryan Ashley; sisters, Gail (Rick) Johnson, Sue Mayberry and Gay (Eugene) Poindexter; brother Russell (Theresa) Critz; step-grandchildren, Xandria Hoepker, Kyle Husted, Sophia Ashley and Malia Ashley; as well as other relatives and many friends.

Bernard was preceded in death by his mother Glendoris Critz and granddaughter Elainia Critz.
