Creston

Clair Boyd, 93, of Creston died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2017, at Point Lookout Nursing Home near Branson, Missouri.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, at First United Methodist Church in Creston. The Rev. Jodi Rushing will officiate. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery in Creston. Open visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 23, with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Pearson Family Funeral Service and Cremation Center, 809 W. Montgomery St., in Creston. Clair Loyce Boyd, son of Alvin Vernie and Nellie (Holkison) Boyd, was born June 6, 1924, in Creston. Clair graduated Creston High School in 1943 and attended Iowa State University in Ames for two years.

On June 23, 1948, he married Jean Mattelyn Boyle in Somonauk, Illinois. Clair worked for Montgomery Ward in Nebraska, Iowa and Wisconsin before returning to Creston in 1958 to work with his brother, Dale. They established A.V. Boyd and Sons Construction. Clair started Crestland Plumbing Supply and Boyd Appliance in Creston. Clair, Dale and Hiram “Hi” Houghton built the spec buildings that were instrumental in attracting businesses to Creston, including Bunn, Wellman Dynamics, Gits Mfg. and Trolley Candy Company. Clair also built assorted commercial buildings.

Clair was a member of Creston First United Methodist Church and led the youth fellowship for five years, and Kiwanis and Rotary clubs of Creston for many years.

Clair is survived by his daughter, Ronda Boyd of San Diego, California; son-in-law Pete Marcellus M.D. of Branson, Missouri; grandchildren, Eric Kilgore, Matt Johnsen, Theron Marcellus, Jennifer Marcellus-Patterson M.D. and Amanda Marcellus-Miles; 14 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Joe Henry of Creston; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Clair was preceded in death by his wife Jean in 2012; parents; daughters, Connie Marcellus and Barb Boyd; brothers, Dale and Don Boyd; sister Louise Henry and sisters-in-law, Leah Boyd and Maxine Boyd.
