Robert “Bob” Kiley, 87, of Creston died Friday, Sept. 22, 2017, at Greater Regional Hospice Home in Creston.

Celebration of life services will be 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, at the Cromwell City Park. The Rev. Delores Doench will officiate. In case of bad weather, services will be held in the Cromwell Church basement. The family is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the children's literacy program and children's summer program at Gibson Memorial Library or Cromwell City Park. Robert Elmer Kiley, son of Lee Elmer and Geneva Mae (Schnebly) Kiley, was born Oct. 12, 1929, in Kanawha. He was raised in Hancock County and attended country school. He joined the United States Navy in 1947 working with the Seabees (Naval Construction Battalion) in Guam. Upon his honorable discharge, Bob married Shirlee Sammons on July 27, 1951, in San Diego, California. To this union, daughter, Beckie, was born. They later divorced.

After returning from the Navy, he lived in Des Moines and worked for Firestone from 1951-54. Bob purchased his farm in Union County in 1954 and began farming. He worked various jobs to support his family, grinding feed, Wellman Dynamics and driving a school bus.

On June 22, 1972, Bob married Judy Watson in Corydon. One son, C. T. Kiley was born to this union.

Bob was a member of the American Legion, VFW and Cromwell Congregational Church. He was a trustee in Douglas Township.

Bob is survived by his wife of 45 years, Judy Kiley of Creston; children, Beckie Jolene (Charlie) Jackson of Creston and C.T. (Erin) Kiley of Diagonal; grandchildren, Melissa Jackson (significant other Scott Painter) of Creston, Nicholas (Kristine) Jackson of Des Moines and Hunter Kiley and Hannah Kiley, both of Diagonal; great-grandchildren, Joel, Trevor, Morgan, Sebastian and Killian; brother Russell (Lenora) Kiley of Algona; sister Betty Foreman of Missouri; sisters-in-law, Susie Kiley of Manhattan, Kansas, and Rose Kiley of Wesley; niece Lisa Creighton of Creston; nephew Dan Creighton of Grimes; many other nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Larry and Charles Kiley; brother-in-law Donald Foreman; mother-in-law Viola Mae Watson and father-in-law James Watson.
