Donald C. Foreman, 81, of Nixa, Missouri, formerly of Afton, died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2017, at his home in Nixa, Missouri.
A memorial celebration will be held at a future date to celebrate his life, in lieu of making funeral arrangements. Memorials may be made to any cancer organization or Alzheimer’s Association in his name. The diagnosis of Alzheimer’s in 2016 motivated him in his decision to leave his remains to research in helping to find cures for human diseases.
Donald, son of Dale and Orpha (Younkin) Foreman, was born Aug. 30, 1935, in Osceola. Donald grew up in Macksburg and graduated from Macksburg High School in 1954. After graduating high school, Donald joined the Iowa National Guard, until transferring into the United States Marine Corps where he served for more than two years. He was medically discharged in 1956 after a car accident in Twentynine Palms, California. After returning home from military service, Donald worked as a barber, law enforcement for the town of Afton, Union County Sheriff Department as deputy sheriff and warehouse security. He was also a distributor of sporting goods equipment during his years as a barber, as well as, part-time laboring jobs working as a farm hand and fence builder.
He was married to Shirley Ann Inman for 23 years. They had five children, Dale (Curt) in 1958, Greg in 1959, Tammy in 1961, Becky in 1964 (deceased at birth) and Donnel in 1966. Donald was married to Betty Ann Kiley for 31 years.
Donald was a member of Masons, Marine Corps League, Marine Corps Leagues Toys for Tots programs and Disabled American Veterans.
Donald is survived by his wife Betty from Nixa, Missouri; children, Dale (Sue) from Elizabeth City, North Carolina, Greg from Elkville, Illinois, Tammy (Daniel) from Harleyville, South Carolina, and Donnel (John) from Dover, New Hampshire; 13 grandchildren and their spouses and 16 great-grandchildren.
Donald was preceded in death by his first wife Shirley; daughter Becky Ann; parents, Dale and Orpha Foreman; brothers, Dale and Gailen; grandson Billy and other family members.
