Panthers, Raiders and Tigers are all-district players

Creston places two on baseball all-district team

Lenox junior Aaron Schmitz hurls a pitch in a game against Nodaay Valley on July, 6. Schmitz was one of the Tigers' go-to pitchers with a 1.91 ERA and hit .434 at the plate with a team-leading 30 RBIs, which led to second-team all-district honors.

Jaden Driskell and Kadon Hulett of Creston both earned distinction as Class 3A southwest district second-team selections recently as announced by the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association.

Driskell, a junior, was primarily a catcher for the Panthers and also played some third base. He threw out 15 of 26 attempted base stealers, with his 15 representing the 15th most in the state this season he posted a .965 fielding percentage with five errors on the season.

Driskell batted .320 and contributed a team-high 26 RBIs. He hit two home runs, five doubles and walked 17 times for an on base percentage of .431.

Hulett, a senior, played first base mostly and also pitched in some big situations for the Panthers.

He batted .277, whacked two home runs, eight doubles, walked 14 times and drove in 18 runs.

Hueltt posted a 3-3 record with a 2.58 ERA and a .243 opponents batting average. He struck out 31 batters in 38 innings of work.

Aaron Schmitz was Lenox’s lone representative on the Class 1A southwest all-district team as a second-teamer.

Schmitz manned the outfield and did some pitching for the Tigers.

He owned a 2-0 record, struck out 37 batters in 33 innings, owned an ERA of 1.91 and opponents hit just .156 off of him.

The junior found more power in his swing to hit gap hits throughout the season, on his way to seven doubles, two triples, a .434 batting average and a team-high 30 RBIs. His base stealing abilities put him at 19-for-19 at swiping bags on the year.

Mount Ayr’s Hunter Haveman and Zach Murphy was honored as Class 2A all-southwest district first team.

Haveman was a consistent singles hitter in the Mount Ayr lineup and owned a .500 batting average as a sophomore.

He hit 10 doubles, drove in 20 runs and stole 17 bases while getting on base at a .565 rate. His 32 runs led the team.

Murphy, a junior came in at a cool .410 batting average this summer. His 29 RBIs led the team, he knocked three homers, six doubles and stole 10 bases.
