CCHS students to perform at musical theater awards showcase

Students from the Creston Community High School theater department will perform at 2017 Iowa High School Musical Theater Awards Showcase.

Becca Coleman and Tyler Peters will reprise their roles as Mrs. Mae Peterson and Albert Peterson, respectively, from the November production of “Bye Bye Birdie.” In addition, select students will perform in a collaborative inter-school medley led by guest Broadway music director, Adam Jones, and choreographer, Sara Brians, as part of the showcase. Presented by Des Moines Performing Arts, the showcase will be held 7 p.m. Monday, June 5, at the Des Moines Civic Center and will recognize a total of 60 schools from across the entire state.

CCHS will also be recognized with the following awards and honors:

• Distinguished scene – “Honestly Sincere”

• Outstanding performance in a principal role – Becca Coleman as “Mrs. Mae Peterson”

• Outstanding performance in a principal role – Tyler Peters as “Albert Peterson”

• Special recognition for performance in a principal role – Livi Hartman as “Rose Alvarez”

• Special recognition for performance in a principal role – David Qualseth as “Conrad Birdie”
