Carla Mongar, 72, of Derby died Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017, at home.
Services were 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 13, at Pierschbacher Funeral Home, 914 Roland Ave., in Chariton. Visitation with family present was from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery at a later date. Memorials are requested to the Derby Community Center.
Carla, daughter of Oliver and Volores Kent, was born July 10, 1944, in Osceola. She attended a one-room country school until the eighth-grade, then Clarke Community School, graduating in 1962. She then attended accounting school in Omaha.
On Aug. 15, 1965, Carla married Richard Mongar. Carla made her home in Derby. She served as Derby city clerk for more than 40 years, was a long-time member of Derby Community Center Board and helped with fundraisers for the Derby Fire Department and Derby community. She served on the election board, was active in American Legion Auxiliary and for many years, put the flags out on the veterans’ graves at Derby Cemetery.
Carla worked at the Derby Lumberyard and Derby Restaurant until it closed in December 1999. She was currently an employee for Richard Oil in Humeston and had worked there for many years taking care of the books.
Carla is survived by her children, Teresa (Mark) Mattson, Brian Mongar, Brad (Melinda) Mongar and Brent (Jenny Baker) Mongar; grandchildren, Rebecca (Colin Flynn) Mattson, Ashley (Mike Sowers) Mattson, Ethan Mongar and Adira Mongar; great-grandson Liam Mattson; sister Lori Lockwood; nephews, Maxx and Alexx Lockwood, Scott (Lorie) Kent and Shad (Heather) Kent; niece Brandee (Rick Carter) Diaz; and many relatives and friends.
Carla was preceded in death by her parents, Oliver and Volores Kent, and brother Randy Kent.
