Candidates on Nov. 8 ballot for ISU Extension and Outreach council

Voters will have the opportunity to elect members of the Iowa State University (ISU) Extension and Outreach Union County Council from a choice of one incumbent and three open candidate seats at the Nov. 8 general election.

“The council members elected this year will be involved in bringing educational opportunities to Union County for the next four years,” said Tracy Kelley with Union County Extension.

ISU Extension and Outreach educational programming is a cooperative effort involving local citizens, Iowa State University and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Extension council members are elected at large and all voters in the county are eligible to vote for the candidates.

The lone candidate on this year’s ballot is Dan Waigand, incumbent, of Afton. Dan currently serves as council chair. Three additional Union County Council spots are open, with no other candidates filing.

Extension council members whose terms expire this year are Randy Ehm of Afton, Candace Ripperger of Afton, Amber Vicker of Creston and Dan Waigand of Afton. Carryover council members whose terms continue through the end of 2018 are Larry Bailey of Creston, Jennifer Foglesong of Thayer, Shiloh Gennaro of Afton, Jerry Hartman of Creston and Mark Ide of Creston.

Successful candidates will take office in January 2017. Extension council members make policy, programming and budget decisions for ISU Extension and Outreach in Union County.
