Harland “Jesse” Cummings, 36, of Ames passed away Friday, Oct. 21, 2016, at home.
Jesse was born July 13, 1980, in Marceline, Missouri, to Harland “Mark” Cummings and Kimberly Lynn (Chaffee) Allgood. Jesse married Candace Lyn Shaw on Sept. 26, 2009. He lived in Ames for the last 16 years and previously lived in Osceola. Jesse owned Cummings Construction, which he started in the fall of 2011. Prior to his business, he worked for ACI Mechanical in Ames for 11 years.
Jesse enjoyed hunting and being outdoors and was a good storyteller. His passion was truck pulling, and he was a member of the MPA and the IAMO Truck Pulling Associations.
Jesse is survived by his wife, Candace Cummings; two children, Morgan Cummings and Blaine Cummings; parents, Mark (LaRae) Cummings of Ames and Kim (Denny) Allgood of Ankeny; brother Colton (Michelle) Cummings of Mitchellville; sister Nicole (Kyle) Burright of Bondurant; brother Ryan (Brittney) Mathre of Madrid; brother Ryley (Thea) Hembry of Albany, Missouri; sisters, Shawna Foddrill of Ankeny, Shelly (Bryan) Hill of Nevada and Stacy Allgood of Polk City; grandparents, Harland and Mary Cummings of Sioux City, Jaynice Jacobs of Brookfield, Missouri, and Tom and Sandy Warren of Ames; great-grandmother Della Cummings of Grimes; nieces and nephews, Hannah, Michael, Colton and Penny Cummings, Kaleb and Kenley Burright, Braylee and Bella Mathre, Olivia and Brea Foddrill, Emma and Brynlee Hill, and Bailey, Tristen and Reese Shaw; along with many aunts, uncles and cousins. Jesse will be remembered as a loving husband, father, son, brother, grandson and uncle. All the nieces and nephews loved their Uncle Jesse.
Jesse was preceded in death by his grandfather Donald Jacobs; step-grandmother Dixie Allgood; cousins, Jodie Gullick and Conon Kennedy and uncle Dalles Jacobs.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, at Rasmusson-Bacon Funeral Home, 1418 Fawcett Parkway, in Nevada. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 28, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery near Luther. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family in loving memory of Jesse.
