Dorothy Brender

Leavenworth, Wash.

Dorothy Alice Brender (née DeWees), a resident of Leavenworth, Washington, died at the age of 94 on Monday, Oct. 3, 2016.

Dorothy was born Jan. 19, 1922, in Creston to local musician Chester DeWees and his wife, Myrtle. In the wake of the Great Dust Bowl, Dorothy and her family moved to Washington state, settling in the Wenatchee Valley area where she met her future husband, Stanley Brender. When her family then moved to Hoqiuam, Washington, she and her sister remained on Stanley’s homesteaded land on Blewett Pass. After marrying, Dorothy and Stanley moved into Leavenworth where they spent the rest of their lives.

A devoted family woman, she lived to enjoy two sons, Terry and Louis of Cashmere and Leavenworth, respectively; a daughter, Deanna, of Pigeon Forge, Tennessee; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A true homemaker, her family remembers her most lovingly for her work ethic and unconditional hospitality.

Dorothy’s service will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, at Ward’s Funeral Chapel, 303 Pine St., in Leavenworth, Washington. All are welcome to attend.
