Doug North gave Carson Whittington just the look he needed during the second playoff hole of Sunday’s Crestmoor Best Shot Tournament.
Whittington took advantage of the line to sink a 25-foot putt to give the brother team the win in the 48th annual tournament.
North and Whittington edged the team of Chad Dryden and T.J. Redding. Both finished regulation with a two-day score of 120. Ryan McKim and Michael Buck were third with a 121. Tom Hartsock and Jim Hartsock were fourth with a 126.
“He hit it first every time,” Whittington said. “It’s good.”
This was the best shot tournament, which differentiates from the best ball tournament. In the best ball tournament held earlier this summer, players took the lowest score from each person’s ball at each hole with the lowest combined score winning.
This weekend, the tournament featured players taking the best of the shot on each shot played during the tournament.
North and Whittington combined to post a 61 on Saturday during day one and a 59 on day two, the same score as Dryden and Redding.
“I wish we would’ve had both rounds in the 50s, but it is what it is,” Whittington.
North and Whittington paired together well
“It was fun,” North said.
Dryden and Redding pushed North and Whittington all weekend.
“It’s always fun playing with those guys,” North said. “You know you’re going to get an ‘A’ game. They’re going to push you back and forth.”
For Whittington, it was a good way to prepare for college. He has signed on with Bethany College in Kansas to continue his golf career.
“I’ve been playing well this summer,” Whittington said.
