Mary Giza, 57, of Creston died Saturday, Aug. 13, 2016, at Greater Regional Hospice Home in Creston.
Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17, at Pearson Family Funeral Service, 809 W. Montgomery St., in Creston. The Rev. Kenneth Halbur, Jr. will officiate. Inurnment will follow in St. Edwards Catholic Cemetery in Afton. Visitation with family present will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16, at the funeral home. Mary Catherine Giza, daughter of John and Vera (Kostenko) Giza, was born May 15, 1959, in Creston. Mary was raised in the Afton area and attended school in both Thayer and Lorimor. Following the consolidation of those schools, Mary attended and graduated from East Union High School with the class of 1977. Mary continued to live in the Union County area the remainder of her life.
Mary worked as a bartender for several area establishments. She was a former, longtime member of the Eagles Lodge in Creston and a former American Legion Auxiliary member.
Mary is survived by her only child Colby Giza of Creston; granddaughter Adrianna Giza of Grimes; mother Vera Giza of Creston; brothers, Ed (Donette) Giza of Council Bluffs, Stan Giza of Osceola and John (Sherrill) Giza of Creston; sister Carol (Gary) McNichols of Creston; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her father John Giza; brother Carl Giza and sister-in-law Linda Giza.
