State placing

DES MOINES — Rylie Driskell placed third in the girls 12-year-old division at the Knights of Columbus State Free Throw competition held Saturday at Wells Fargo Arena.

Driskell, daughter of Greg and Merry Driskell of Creston and a seventh-grader at St. Malachy School, made 22 of 25 shots in the state competition. The top two placewinners each made 23.

The free throw contest has been a tradition among Knights of Columbus councils since 1972.

Driskell was a state winner in the Elks Hoop Shoot competition in her 12-13 age group, then went on to win the North Central Region Championship to qualify for the national championship April 16 in Chicago. Driskell represents Elks Lodge No. 605 in the competition sponsored by Elks National Foundation, the charitable arm of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the USA.

Others advancing from the North Central Region Championship held March 19 in Iowa City were Kenidee Boldt of Mount Vernon, Ill. (girls 8-9); Eli Menke of Rochester, Minn. (boys 8-9); Hattie Hagedorn of Davenport (girls 10-11); Ryan Schiltz of Estherville (boys 10-11); and Noah Groshan of Janesville, Wisconsin (boys 12-13).

Soccer seating

Jeff Bevins, Creston High School activities director, has announced changes relative to soccer matches being held at the north soccer field near Creston Elementary/Middle School.

“All games will be played at the north field,” Bevins said. “Most all home games will start with varsity at 5 p.m. and JV at 6:30. For right now, seating will be on the east end of the field only, so the public is encouraged to bring lawn chairs. This is a change in the area whre spectators can sit. We do not have enough room on the north side of the field for spectators to meet the state’s soccer spectating guidelines. The best parking will be where the old bus barn was located.”

Today’s schedule, however, is a varsity doubleheader with girls action against St. Albert starting at 4 p.m. and boys varsity to follow. There are no lights at the north soccer field facility.
