John Blaine, 61, of Massena died Sunday, April 3, 2016, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Celebration of life services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 8, at St. Peter's United Church of Christ, south of Massena, with a luncheon following the service at Massena Lion-Legion Hall. The Rev. James Hansen will officiate the service. Open visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m.Thursday with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. at Steen Funeral Home, 205 W. Fifth St., in Massena. John G. Blaine, son of Ova and Elsie (Keller) Blaine, was born Aug. 5, 1954, in Iowa City.

John attended school in Corning.  After high school, he married Shirley Kuesel. They raised their family in Massena and he worked as a carpenter. He also ran Blaine’s Produce in Massena, which he sold vegetables during the summer.

On Oct. 15, 2005, he married Cindy Denney in Massena. He was known as the Massena handyman.

John is survived by his wife Cindy Blaine of Massena; sons, Chris (Lindsay) Blaine and Jake (June) Blaine, all of Massena; step-sons, Trevor (Mindy) Oberholtz of Rapid City, South Dakota, and Tyler Oberholtz of Adair; sister Joanie (Steve) Howe of Creston; grandchildren, Natalie Blaine, Nellie Blaine, Dylan Blaine and Alora Oberholtz; brother-in-law Herman Gracey of Osceola and other relatives and friends.

John was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Christina; brother Jack Blaine and sisters, Mary Lou Lively, Karen Nath and Nancy Gracey.
