4-H and FFA rabbit workshop scheduled for April 9

GREENFIELD – 4-H and FFA rabbit workshop is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 9, in the rabbit and poultry barn on the Adair County Fairgrounds.

Bill Wolfe, Polk County Fair rabbit superintendent, and Wes Nelson, West Fair rabbit superintendent, will be the presenters covering rabbit care, tattooing, showmanship and building a rabbit carrier from a kit. Youth will also have an opportunity to make kick guards to be worn when showing their rabbits. The new single fryer class added to the rabbit division at the Adair County Fair will also be explained.

Participants will have an option of building a rabbit carrier from a kit during the workshop. Cost will be $20 to build a small to medium-sized carrier and $27.50 to build a large carrier, payable at the workshop. Participants may bring one rabbit to consult with the presenters. Drawing for a free rabbit will be held.

There is no charge to 4-H and FFA members to attend the workshop, but pre-registration is required. Call the Adair County Extension office at 641-743-8412 or email wallaced@iastate.edu to register and specify plans for making the rabbit carrier. The workshop is sponsored by the Nodaway Valley Champions 4-H Club and Terri Raasch, Adair County Fair rabbit superintendent.

The Adair County Fair will be held Wednesday, July 20 through Sunday, July 24, with the 4-H and FFA rabbit show scheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday, July 23, in the gazebo area on the fairgrounds.
