Fontanelle woman helps with book drive for foster kids

Lisa Carstens, independent team leader with Usborne Books and More (UBAM) from Fontanelle, partnered with the Iowa Department of Human Services in Adair, Adams and Union counties to host a book drive for foster families in the area.

Utilizing UBAM’s Lifetime for Literacy grant program, all donations were matched by 50 percent. A total of $900 was raised to purchase 100 books and UBAM cinch bags. Twenty-four children each received four to five books and a bag.

A special thank you has been extended on behalf of everyone involved, including the foster families. Personal donors include Clarke and Michelle Carns, Deron and Nicole Shawley, Brian and Laura Britten, Jason and Sadie Bruce, Dean and Melodee Carstens, Gerald and Roseanne Sychra and Kyle and Lisa Carstens. Business donors include Creston Livestock Auction, Creston News Advertiser, Iowa State Savings Bank in Creston, Tyler Insurance Services in Creston, Adair County Mutual Insurance in Greenfield, Tiger Drive-In in Greenfield, First National Bank in Fontanelle and Town and Country Insurance in Stuart.
