Jameson Chase Cox, 21, 503 W. Buckeye St., was charged with possession of a controlled substance 8:41 p.m. Jan. 11 in Adair County.

According to an Adair County Sheriff report, officers performed a traffic stop on a maroon Chrysler Sebring at the intersection of Highway 92 and Bridgewater Road for having an insufficient number of headlamps. Officers identified the driver as Cox. While officers spoke with Cox, he said he was visiting Bridgewater to see family. Officers asked who his family was and he was unable to tell them. Due to the suspicious story Cox gave officers, they asked if he had been arrested and he said he had for possession of drug paraphernalia. They then asked if he had anything illegal on him at that time, and he said no. Officers then asked Cox if there was anything illegal in the vehicle, to which he said no. Officers then asked Cox if they could search his vehicle, and he said yes. During the search, officers located a baggie with methamphetamine and a straw in Cox’s wallet. Cox admitted the substance was methamphetamine and he had been using the drug for approximately five months.

Cox was released on $1,000 bond.

Ryan James Richter, 34, of Casey was charged with violation of a no-contact order 4:04 p.m. Thursday in Adair County.

According to an Adair County Sheriff report, Christin Richter called the sheriff’s office and said she had received a phone call from an unknown number and she recognized the male caller as her estranged husband, Ryan. Christin said the content of the call was a complaint by Ryan regarding the custody of their minor children. It was ascertained there is in fact a currently valid protective order by consent agreement that bars any contact between the two with the exception of email communications regarding business matters.

Richter was released on his own recognizance.

Clinton Lewis Casteel, 37, of Stuart was charged with driving while barred 1:28 a.m. Friday in Adair County.

Casteel was released on his own recognizance.

James Kermit Cook, 53, of Greenfield was charged with simple assault 10:27 p.m. Friday in Adair County.

According to an Adair County Sheriff report, Cook physically made contact with a female victim by pushing her backward over a chair, which was painful and offensive.

Cook pleaded guilty and was sentenced to time served.
