ALTOONA — Adventureland will be closing the Log Ride this September, with a new roller coaster slated to open next year, according to a post on the theme park’s Facebook page this morning.
The Log Ride, which has been a park favorite for more than 40 years, will close for good on Labor Day weekend.
“While still structurally sound, technology for rides has advanced by leaps and bounds,” the message states. “It is requiring an enormous amount of upkeep and maintenance that isn’t feasible long term.”
The message continues to promise fans a replacement “sooner rather than later.”
The new roller coaster, named “The Monster,” will open June 2016. Among the ride’s features will be a 2,500-foot steel track, a 133-foot vertical lift hill, five inversions and a 101-degree first drop.
Those who share Adventureland’s Facebook post by noon Friday will be entered to win four tickets good for the last ride on the Log Ride, as well as two season passes for the 2016 season and two seats on the inaugural ride of The Monster.
As of 10 a.m. today, the post had more than 2,300 shares.
