Evelyn Sandquist, 80, of Afton, formerly of the Elliott and Red Oak areas, died April 26, 2015, at Afton Care Center. Evelyn is the mother of Betty Spangler of Creston.

Graveside memorial services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, April 30, at Pilot Grove Cemetery north of Stanton. The Rev. Delores Doench will officiate. Burial will be in Pilot Grove Cemetery. Open memorial visitation will be 2 to 7 p.m. Wednesday with family present 5 to 7 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, junction of highways 34 and 25, Creston. Memorials may be given to Afton Care Center or a charity of choice. Online condolences may be left at www.powersfh.com.

Evelyn Jean Sandquist, daughter of Eula Florence Burk and Ralph Elroy Gourley, was born July 4, 1934, in Belle Plain.

Evelyn attended Washington Township Country School for eight years and then attended Villisca High School and graduated in 1952. After high school, she moved to Red Oak where she worked at the National Carbon Plant for a short time.

On June 20, 1956, Evelyn married Harvey Lee Frink Sr. They settled on a farm near Henderson, and they were later divorced.

On Nov. 2, 1964, Evelyn married Virgil Sandquist in Elliott, and worked as a homemaker.

Evelyn later moved to Creston to be near family.

Evelyn was a member of the Elliot Methodist Church.

Evelyn is survived by her daughters, Betty (husband Jim) Spangler of Creston, Barb Frink of Council Bluffs and Rena Lang of Moberly, Mo; brother Leo Gourley of Clarinda; grandchildren, Jean and Jebb Frink; and many nieces and nephews.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband Virgil; and son Harvey Lee Frink Jr.
