Roger Frey, 69, of Creston died Jan. 11, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014, at Powers Funeral Home, junction of highways 34 and 25. Mary O’Riley will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery south of Creston. Open visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday with family present 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are to be determined. Online condolences may be left at powersfh.com.
Roger Glenn Frey, son of Ruth Isabelle (Blizzard) and Arthur Leon Frey, was born Sept. 28, 1944, in Des Moines.
Roger attended country school near Thayer and later graduated from Creston High School in 1962.
On Oct. 31, 1964, Roger married Beverly J. Calvin at the Methodist Church in Creston.
They settled in Creston, where Roger began working for Burlington Northern Railroad.
Roger and Beverly later divorced.
Roger retired as a conductor in 1986. He moved to a farm east of Afton.
In 2010, he moved back to Creston.
Roger is survived by his daughter Janeen Frey of Creston, son Dana (wife Erica) Frey of Creston, former wife Beverly Koenen of Creston; grandchildren, Evin, Kaytee and Quinton Scadden, Shelby Bishop and Casey and Clayton Koenen and Morghan, Jack and Maddie Frey; great-grandson Joseph Lee; brothers, Leon (wife Denise) Frey of Creston and twin Robert (wife Rita) Frey of Afton; sister Donna Marlin of Creston, many nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Jackie Scadden in 2007, granddaughter Sydnee Koenen in 1994 and nephew David Marlin in 2010.
