Marian Stewart, 82, of Creston died Dec. 26, 2013, at Creston Nursing and Rehab.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 30, at the First Christian Church. The Rev. Ed Shields and the Rev. Gary Freeland will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 to 7 p.m. Sunday with family present 5 to 7 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, junction of highways 34 and 25. Memorials may be directed to First Christian Church. Marian Stewart, daughter of Gladys (Johnson) and Fred Rasmussen, was born Oct. 20, 1931, in Axtell, Neb.
Marian graduated from Minden High School and worked for Warp’s Publishing Company in Minden, Neb.
On Aug. 6, 1950, Marian married Lores “Stew” Stewart in Minden, Neb.
Marian and Stew started their married life in Minden, Neb. During their early years together, Marian was a homemaker. Later she worked for St. Joseph’s Hospital as a secretary, while they lived in Ottumwa.
In November 1968, Stew and Marian moved their family to Creston, where Stew managed Easters Super Valu, and later they became the owners of Creston Shopper and Stewart Realty.
Marian played organ and piano for church, wedding and funeral services, while in Minden, Neb., Ottumwa and Creston. She was a lifetime member of the First Christian Church and active in Women’s Fellowship and P.E.O. Chapter L.G.
Marian is survived by her husband Stew Stewart of Creston; sons, Fred (wife Linda) Stewart of Louisburg, N.C., and Jim (wife Joyce) Stewart of Mitchell, S.D.; daughters, Val (husband Gary) Bailey and Shari (husband John) Walters, all of Creston; sister Marie Bell of Purcellville, Va.; grandchildren, Kevin (wife Meg) Stewart of Hoover, Ala., Maggie (husband Mike) Rintala of Solana Beach, Calif., Kyle (wife Cameron) Stewart of Damascus, Md., Cory Bailey of Omaha, Neb., Cody Bailey of Baton Rouge, La., Taylor Walters of Culver City, Calif., and Maxx Walters of Creston; and great-grandchildren, Stella and Michael Stewart, Mollie and Rowan Rintala and Jackson and Brady Stewart.
Marian was preceded in death by her parents and brother Calvin.
