Shirley Martin, 75, of Mount Ayr died Dec. 4, 2013, at her home northeast of Mount Ayr.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home, 205 W. Monroe St., Mount Ayr. The Rev. Bill Armstrong will officiate. Burial will be in Tingley Cemetery. Open visitation will be noon to 8 p.m. Friday with family present 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Ringgold County Fairgrounds and Alzheimer's research. Shirley Martin, daughter of Violet (Allen) and Clarence Blauer, was born May 17, 1935, in Iowa City.
Shirley lived all of her life in Ringgold County, mainly Tingley, Washington and Liberty townships.
Shirley graduated from Tingley High School in 1957.
On Aug. 17, 1969, Shirley married Howard Martin.
Shirley was a farm wife and also worked 20-plus years as a meter reader for R.E.C. and 12 years for Iowa Select.
Shirley is survived by her husband Howard Martin of Mount Ayr; sons, Lee (Heather) Martin and Darren (Kisha) Martin, all of Mount Ayr, and Robert (Stacia) Martin of Benton; grandchildren, Levi, Lincoln, Craven, Kyler, Ryann, Bryson, Bralynn and Bryant Martin; sisters-in-law, Doris Todd of Mount Ayr and Mary (James) Harris of Grand River; and brother-in-law Robert (Verna) Martin of Mount Ayr.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Margaret Blauer and Norma Jean Paxson; and brothers-in-law, Dave Paxson and Lyle Todd.
