Dorothy Main Mount Ayr

Dorothy (Bird) Main, 90, of Mount Ayr died Nov. 15, 2013, at Mount Ayr Health Care Center.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, at the United Methodist Church in Mount Ayr. The Rev. Skip Rushing will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Mount Ayr. Open visitation will be noon to 8 p.m. Friday with family present 6 to 8 p.m. at Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home, 205 W. Monroe St., Mount Ayr. Dorothy (Bird) Main, daughter of Ollie (Driskell) and Fred Bird, was born May 2, 1923, in Filer, Idaho. Her family returned to Ringgold County, when she was young.

Dorothy graduated from Mount Ayr High School in 1940. She attended Maryville College and also AIB, and took a job as a teacher at Fairview Country School.

On Nov. 11, 1945, Dorothy married Eldon Main at Wishard Chapel United Methodist Church.

Dorothy was a Cub Scout den mother and member of the United Methodist Church, where she served on many boards and was active in the United Methodist Women’s group.

Dorothy worked at Mount Ayr Public Library for a few years. She returned to work at the library several years later, where she continued to work, even after entering Mount Ayr Health Care, until her health no longer permitted her to work.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Gary (Kayla) Main of Redmond, Wash., Lynda (James) Lott of Bellingham, Wash., Kelly (Terri Lee) Main of Mount Ayr and Roger (Terri Ann) Main of Creston; grandchildren, Scott Main, Greg (Yen Ming Chen) Main, Matthew (Mary Ann Vellanikaran) Lott, Vanessa (Peter) Young, Jennifer (Mallory Koeppen) Lott, Kimberly (Sean) Tamman, Brett (Annika Berry) Lott, Mike (Nicole Bonebrake) Lott, Erin (Andrea) Main, Quincy (Tori Braby Shields) Main and Wiley (Carrie) Main; step-grandchildren, Tisha (Mike) Worden, TJ (Mindy) Stalker and Todd (Cari) Stalker; and sister Margaret Jackson of Des Moines.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, parents, great-grandson Tristan, sister-in-law Carol Main; and brothers-in-law, Edward Main and Drexel Jackson.
